Dearborn police urge “Sparty” to swim for land after he fell through the ice on the Ford Field pond adjacent to the Rouge River Jan. 8. After encouragement from owner Edith Mei the officers and an ordinance officer he swam safely to the edge of the pond.

Edith Mei with her dogs “Bella” and “Sparty” starts walking home Jan. 8 after “Sparty” fell through the ice on the Ford Field pond adjacent to the Rouge River. With the air temperature about 10 degrees his fur quickly froze, but he was still ready to play after finding his own way to dry land with the urging of Mei and Dearborn police and ordinance officers.

Dearborn City Photographer Bruce Harkness works his last assignment Dec. 28 during oath taking ceremonies for newly elected State Rep George Darany at 19th District Court. Harkness has been the official photographer for the city for over two decades and took a buyout that ends his employment. The city now has no official still photographer, down from four full time shooters in the late 1970’s.

A Dearborn firefighter rushes to battle a blaze that consumed three truck tractors Friday morning at the Mason Dixon Intermodal Terminal on Wyoming. A long row of parked trucks began burning after one caught fire and the flames spread to rigs on either side. Jacob Parish, 18, of Dearborn, and John Barry, 16, of Dearborn Heights look to family members in the audience during their arraignment in October for homicide charges and in connection with the death of James Alexander Kozicki, 19, of Dearborn. It is alleged that the defendants robbed the victim and when the 18-year-old defendant drove the car from the scene the victim was dragged by the vehicle.  Kozicki was taken to a local hospital where he died from injuries he sustained.
