An Amtrak engineer and a conductor watch as first responding Dearborn firefighters aid the driver of the city sidewalk snowplow tractor hit by the train Friday at Monroe Street. Her injuries were said to be serious but not life threatening. A preliminary investigation indicates that the operator of the tractor was plowing snow along a sidewalk when the blade of the plow became engaged with a rail on the train tracks, said a statement from the city. The operator attempted to disengage the plow blade and reverse the tractor but was unable to avoid being struck by the westbound train.
