While people of high school age are planning their proms, with limos and dressy outfits, people at the other end of the age scale are having an equally good time even though they like music from past decades and ride wheelchairs instead of stretch limos. The annual Senior Citizen Prom was held at Heartland Nursing Center in Dearborn Heights March 25 and it was a dressy affair with professional entertainment by Damon Shaw, formerly of the Platters. Retired Dearborn High teacher Ron Webb and school’s social worker Barry Schumer greet each other at a town hall meeting about current and pending legislation with educational and fiscal impact Monday at the Dearborn Federation of Teachers offices. Legislators were invited.

The start for the kids’ event of the Martian Marathon Saturday includes students from several of Dearborn’s elementary schools. The annual event at Ford Field drew 1,000 young runners who ran 25 miles in segments over the past weeks, then raced the last mile at the race. The growing event attracted over 7,000 serious adult runners for the marathon, a half marathon and five and 10 K races out Hines Drive and back.
