Shopper Maya Campbell gets a ride around the Dearborn Wal-Mart Dec. 20 from Police Officer Wayne Seccombe for the annual Shop with a Cop/Fireman event. The Dearborn Police Officers Charity and the Dearborn Fire Fighters Burn Drive along with Wal-Mart treated 38 kids from five to 13 years of age to a $100 shopping spree.  The children were identified by youth officers and the Dearborn Public Schools as in need during this holiday season.

Encouraged by treats and guided by Dearborn Animal Shelter Director Elaine Greene, “Aldo” wags his tail dipped in poster paint on a canvas to create a Pupcatso Dec. 14. The art work by animals is auctioned off to raise money for the facility.

To the beat of drums and the call of a trumpet, men in the crowd rhythmically strike themselves with chains during a ceremony in Hemlock Park in February. Almost 2,000 people marched from the Karbala Center to the park to commemorate Arba’een, an important religious event to Shi’a Muslims.

Dearborn Symphony Orchestra Conductor Kypros Markou waits in the wings for his entrance onto the stage in February. Almost 2,000 kids from Dearborn, the Heights and even home schooled children were treated to a concert of classics.

Workers occasionally paused to smile at the ball players and media visitors in January during a visit by Tigers players and coaches to the Ford Motor Company’s Dearborn Truck Plant.

Dearborn School Board Trustee Hussein Berry carries an American flag in January during a protest against terrorism at US District Court in Detroit. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab appeared in U.S. District Court for his arraignment on six charges. The Nigerian resident is accused of attempting to blow up the airliner and nearly 300 people on board at the direction of al-Qaida operatives based in the Arabian Peninsula.
