Dearborn police urge “Sparty” to swim for land after he fell through the ice on the Ford Field pond adjacent to the Rouge River Jan. 8. After encouragement from owner Edith Mei the officers and an ordinance officer he swam safely to the edge of the pond.

Edith Mei with her dogs “Bella” and “Sparty” starts walking home Jan. 8 after “Sparty” fell through the ice on the Ford Field pond adjacent to the Rouge River. With the air temperature about 10 degrees his fur quickly froze, but he was still ready to play after finding his own way to dry land with the urging of Mei and Dearborn police and ordinance officers.

Brainstormer Mark C. Holden uses dramatic gestures to act out a story about a goat by Kinloch student Ghazale Chami. The improve troupe returned to Kinloch Elementary School in the Heights Jan. 5 to perform selected stories written by students.
