Army Combat Medic Richard Marchand gets a big hug when he pays a surprise visit to his son Kamrin at Bedford Elementary in Dearborn Heights Feb. 23. His three day visit to his home town precedes his assignment to Korea. Principal Cathie Williams was in on the surprise and called the entire school down for an assembly to meet the active duty soldier. Marchand, a Crestwood graduate, flew in Wednesday morning and stopped by his parents’ house a few blocks from the school to change into uniform.

Many people in the crowd at Friday’s pro-democracy rally at Dearborn City Hall carried signs demanding freedom for Imam Musa Al-Sadr. He was a well known Lebanese religious scholar when he was believed to have been kidnapped in Libya in 1978. The demonstration was the fourth in four weeks in support of rebellion shaking the Mideast and North Africa.
