Howard Elementary students Danya Taleb and Jenna Berry pick out gems from piles of junk to construct found art sculpture Feb. 1 at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. It was part of field trips for elementary students that exposed them to sculpture and art with guidance from artist Dan Cascardo and was partially funded by the Dearborn Community Fund.

Dearborn artist Janet Kondziela is armed, once again, with paintbrushes, easel and all necessary art supplies in hand and setting up her mobile “studio” in a new round of food establishments including Restaurant Fifty One O One at Henry Ford Community College where she worked March 3. Her goal: to capture on canvas the essence of each establishment’s culinary delights. Kondziela began her artistic culinary journey titled “Dearborn Paints – Good Food” in May of last year visiting a variety of establishments on both the east and west sides of town.

Former Andiamo Restaurant server Michael Morganroth smiles during a large protest outside the restaurant last year. He and about 80 other protestors organized by the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Michigan demonstrated against what they said were arbitrary firings of employees. A settlement between the parties was announce last week.
